Motorsport LUT Pack 1.0

When I was first starting out, I purchased LUT packs left and right trying to get an easy solution to some cinematic looks. Eventually, once I started getting paid to shoot motorsports, I learned an important lesson the hard way - color accuracy matters to teams and brands

Racecars are often vinyled in bright colors, and every brand I've ever worked with cares more about those colors being accuractely represented than having a "cinematic" Batman look applied.

So I created a minimal set of LUTs that better suited the needs of my clients, and have used them on work for BMW, Aston Martin, Ferrari and others. I've tests and used these luts in:

  • Davinci Resolve
  • Premier Pro
  • Final Cut X

Most LUT packs have 5-10 different looks that you'll never end up using. I've included the two that I use 95% of the time:

  • Daytime - the LUT that I use on almost all of my shots. It provides a pop of color, while introducing soft blues in the shadows and gentle warm tones in the highlights.
  • Night - color grading at night can be super tricky. It shifts the shadows and mids to a blue/teal and limits some of the colors that don't pop well at night.

This pack separate files for a variety of situations:

  • Sony Slog3 - these LUTs includes both the conversion from Slog3/S-Gamut3.Cine and the LOOK all in one file.
  • Sony Rec709 - contains my Daytime and Night LOOK files specifically formulated for Sony color science.
  • Universal Rec709 - contains my Daytime and Night LOOK files without any camera specific modifications.

For added assurance, a help file is included that lists my main color related camera settings, as well as how to use the LUTs in your specific editing software.
